Oda Lounge Chair

$7,775.00

Originally dubbed Model 9, the Oda Chair was an ambitious design from the very beginning. Created by Arnold Madsen in around 1956, the aesthetic reinterpretation of an armchair has a complex horseshoe construction with an integrated headrest and beautifully incorporated armrests in wood. Offering comfortable support, the embracing design was initially – and mistakenly – attributed to Nanna Ditzel. In 2020 it was rightfully credited to Madsen. Constructed according to a vintage version as there are no drawings of the original design, the Oda Chair profiles a sublime level of craftsmanship, evident in the intricacy of its upholstery. Available with legs in natural oak or walnut.

39.37''H x 34.25''W x 36.61''L, Seat Height: 15.35"

Oak or Walnut, Steel, Solid beech, plywood, cold foam, linen, quilt foam

Designer

Arnold Madsen (1907-1989), a Danish Modernism pioneer from North Jutland, founded Madsen & Schubell in 1945, where he crafted groundbreaking furniture designs like the Oda Chair and Clam Chair. These pieces, characterized by their experimental forms and materials, epitomized the Danish Modern aesthetic. The Oda Chair, notable for its welded steel frame, bent plywood, and integrated armrests, showcased Madsen's innovative approach. Initially attributed to Philip Arctander, the Clam Chair is now widely believed to be Madsen's creation, produced by his own company. Similarly, the Oda Chair, originally miscredited to Nanna Ditzel, was later acknowledged as Madsen's pioneering design from the mid-1950s.
