Corona Chair

The Corona Chair by Poul M. Volther is an experimental take on Danish design. Sculptural, eye-catching and original, the Corona is a lesson in geometry. A consequent design with elliptical-shaped, upholstered seat pads descending in size. It’s an intriguing approach that challenges conventional seating, resulting in Corona’s image as a design icon coveted the world over.

Designer Poul M. Volther (1923–2001) was a leading figure in Danish modernism who began his career as a cabinetmaker before training at Copenhagen’s Arts & Crafts School. He succeeded Børge Mogensen as artistic director of FDB Møbler in 1950 and went on to pioneer minimalist, functional designs, most notably the sculptural Corona Chair, (launched in 1964) that balance elegant simplicity with bold form and material innovation.
