STOFF Nagel traces back to post-war Germany near Cologne, where the Nagel family's blacksmith father turned brass cartridge cases into candle holders, vases and ashtrays. On a skiing holiday in the Alps, Hans Nagel fell and left three finger holes in the snow, and he asked the architect and artist Werner Stoff to turn the idea into a candle holder, which launched with great success in the late 1960s. STOFF Copenhagen has since relaunched it from Werner Stoff's original drawings, first in chrome, then in solid brass in 2016 and in black in 2017.
