Wegner 1788 Easy Chair

The 1788 chair features a stunning profile in the sloping armrests, reflecting Wegners signature sculptural details and talent for working with wood.

Børge Mogensen and Hans J. Wegner, both born in 1914, were close collaborators who presented “A Home For the Future” at the 1945 Copenhagen Cabinetmaker’s Guild Exhibition. Their concept showcased a forward-thinking living room with lightweight, functional furniture. Among the standout pieces was Mogensen’s Spoke-back Sofa, an innovative design featuring a reclining side, initially exhibited without back cushions. Although praised, it was considered too refined for the post-war era and only entered production in 1963. Wegner’s contribution, the 1788 easy chair, was later refined in 1974, highlighting his sculptural approach through elegantly profiled armrests.
