Mogensen 3236 Chair

Designed in 1956 for Fredericia, the Børge Mogensen 3236 Chair refines the spirit of The People’s Chair into a generously proportioned, fully upholstered dining chair with a calm Scandinavian profile. Its solid wood frame with rounded legs and back posts offers lasting stability, while the gently curved seat supports comfortable, extended sitting. Honest, uncluttered construction suits dining rooms, kitchens, and hospitality spaces, pairing easily with contemporary or classic tables. A timeless piece of Danish design, the 3236 brings craft, comfort, and modern character to Canadian homes.

Appointed Head of Design at Fredericia in 1955, Borge Mogensen set out to create a new collection, leading to the 3236 Chair in 1956. Its solid, simplified construction expresses his focus on refined natural materials and precise proportions. Broad spokes and legs provide dependable stability for long sitting, while a gently curved upholstered seat enhances comfort and keeps the design true to its purpose, making it an ideal side chair that is simple, modest, and self confident. Introduced the following year, the Mogensen Bench pursues the same clarity of form with a slim back support and an upholstered rectangular seat with softened corners. Its lean, linear profile feels open and airy, and the underlying structure echoes the 3236 Chair, making the bench a natural companion.
