Taper Shelf
An open steel wall shelf from Jonas Herman of Herman Studio for Form & Refine, made in two sizes. The small shelf is a shallow two-tier ledge for the things that need a home by the door: keys, glasses, post. The tall unit has four bays of equal height and holds kitchenware in a kitchen, files in an office and coats and shoes by an entrance. Both are drawn around the same idea, a steel profile that tapers to a rolled front edge so a thin shelf reads as a solid one, and angled brackets at the back brace the frame without closing it in. They pair with the mirrors, cube and console in the Taper series.
Designer
Herman Studio is a Copenhagen design practice founded in 2012 by architects Helle Herman Mortensen and Jonas Herman Pedersen, working across furniture, lighting, ceramics, textiles and interiors. Each piece begins in the workshop with a close study of how it will be built, then moves through sketches, models and prototypes until a single clear outline remains. That focus on contour is what makes their designs for Form & Refine simple to read at a glance and easy to recognise.
