VL Studio Wall Lamp

$828.75 $975.00

The fixture emits a glare-free, diffused light. The triple-layered opal glass provides pleasant and uniform illumination of the area around the fixture. The lampshade can be tilted 90 degrees to the right or left, which allows for flexible light distribution.

The VL Studio series is based on a lamp designed by architect Vilhelm Lauritzen for Radiohuset in Copenhagen during the 1940s. Named for its use in studios indicating recording status, the design was part of Lauritzen's comprehensive approach to Radiohuset's interior and lighting in collaboration with Louis Poulsen.

Initially crafted in the 1940s, the Studio lamp, VL 38 Table lamp (VL38), Radiohus Pendant (VL45), and VL Ring Crown lamps were eventually discontinued. Reintroduced later, VL45 and VL38 returned in 2016, followed by VL Ring Crown in 2019, and VL Studio lamp in 2022.

The VL Studio lamp and Radiohus Pendant share a design ethos, diffusing light through opaline glass for a gentle ambient glow. The 2022 reintroduction of the VL Studio Wall lamp retains its original materials—clear-lacquered brass with glossy white, triple-layered, mouth-blown opal glass—now also in matte-black, offering a modern and versatile aesthetic for interiors.

Designer

Vilhelm Lauritzen (1894–1984) was a pioneering Danish architect and a key figure in functionalism, known for iconic buildings like Nørrebro Theatre, Radiohuset, and Kastrup Airport. His architectural philosophy centered on the belief that architecture is applied art and essential to life, which he demonstrated through his masterful use of both daylight and artificial lighting. Lauritzen's light fixtures, beginning with the Universal pendant in the late 1920s, combined directed light with diffuse illumination, and many of his designs became part of Louis Poulsen’s collection in the mid-20th century.

Brand

Established in 1874 as a lighting manufacturer, Louis Poulsen has become one of the world's leading producers of lighting. This success is attributed to collaborations with renowned designers and architects like Arne Jacobsen, Øivind Slaatto, Poul Henningsen, and Verner Panton.
