Shoemaker Chair™, No. 68

A true classic made in Denmark since 1936 – where it still to this day is produced by our local joinery. The seat is shaped out of one large solid piece of wood and because of the variations in the woodgrain, every Shoemaker Chair™ is completely unique. Together, the turned legs and the stabilizing T connection create a harmonic and aesthetic piece of furniture with strong references to the Nordic design universe. The construction may look rather simply , but it is technically difficult to master. The solid piece of wood has to be carved very accurately to ensure the highest comfort. At the end of the process every model is finished by hand before going into a three - step process of staining or oiling surface treatments.

Notes
Seat shaped from one solid piece of wood, so every chair is unique in grain.
Wood may display small bumps, wind scratches and color changes.
In very low or high humidity the seat may settle slightly, develop minor cracks or change shape.

Care
Daily cleaning with a clean, dry cotton cloth. No scouring pads or synthetic cloths.
Remove dirt with a damp cotton cloth firmly wrung in clean water.
No harsh or abrasive cleaning agents. Mild soap only, no solvents.
Oiled versions: oil can be reapplied.
Black version: lacquer or stain can be reapplied.

Designer Werner is a family of wood turners from Funen, Denmark, working out of Gislev Drejerforretning, a turning joinery founded in 1913. The family adopted the Shoemaker Chair, a design dating from 1936, in the 1970s and has refined it over three generations, adding T-shaped legs for stability and reshaping the seat. The designer and the wood turner are still one and the same, and the chairs are still made in the family joinery. Brand
