System Ultra Shelf

In the wake of the launch of the iconic Royal System in 1948, Poul Cadovius introduced its successor, System Ultra, in 1957. Based on the same design principles as its renowned predecessor, the shelving system has a distinct visual identity of its own.

In 1957, Poul Cadovius exhibited at the XI Triennale in Milan, where he won a silver medal for System Ultra. A highly treasured prize and an international recognition of an exceptional design idea.

System Ultra is defined by its ultra-thin, moulded veneer shelves with a refined wave-shaped edge profile that gives the shelving a beautiful organic shape. Available in oak and walnut, the system is built around wall-mounted rails that support a flexible range of shelves and cabinets.

The many elements can be combined in numerous ways, making the system particularly suited for both storage and wardrobe solutions. These include a shelf with an integrated clothes rod, an angled shelf for magazines or shoes, and three cabinets with or without doors.

Designer Poul Cadovius (1911-2011) trained as an upholsterer before founding his furniture company, Royal System, in 1945. His idea was to move furniture off the floor and onto the walls, leaving more space in the room, and it gave rise to Royal System (1948), System Ultra (1957) and System Cado (1960). Over his career he held more than 400 patents. In 2009, at the age of 98, he was approached by DK3 founder Jacob Plejdrup to relaunch Royal System, and today DK3 holds the licences for all three systems and the Pia Chair. Brand
