Cover is a family of wooden chairs designed by Thomas Bentzen for Muuto. Each one is made from form-pressed wood that is folded over the chair's legs and backrest, a layering that helps lock the elements of the chair together. The family includes a side chair, an armchair, a lounge chair, a counter stool and a bar stool.
In Bentzen's words, the series was born from a desire to create a comfortable and contemporary chair in wood. Bentzen started his own studio in 2010 and co-founded the design collective REMOVE. He also designed Muuto's Enfold Sideboard, the subject of our post on the Enfold.

Form-Pressed Wood on a Solid Frame
In oak, the back and seat are oak veneer on a solid oak frame and legs. Bentzen aimed for a crisp, vivid expression in the plywood and a solid, grounded look in the frame and base. He describes the result as a light yet strong chair that takes the material of veneer to its extreme.
The Side Chair and the Armchair
On the Cover Side Chair, the curved backrest folds around the back legs and ties the design together. The side chair is stackable, and it measures 21.1" wide, 19.3" deep and 29.7" high, with a seat height of 17.9".
The Cover Armchair takes its name from the form-pressed wooden covers of its armrests, and it has no visible screws. Muuto suggests it for the living room, hallway or bedroom as well as restaurants and workplaces. It is 22.1" wide, 19.6" deep and 29.8" high, with a seat height of 18.1".
Both chairs come in Oak, Black, Dark Beige and Stained Dark Brown. The side chair is offered with a Refine Leather seat in Black and Black, Black and Stained Dark Brown, Cognac and Oak, or Stone and Dark Beige, and the armchair in Cognac and Oak.
The Lounge Chair
Bentzen calls the Cover Lounge Chair a natural extension of the original design. It has a grand seat with a curved back, wooden armrest covers and a slightly curved seat. Bentzen says its open, light silhouette allows it to be placed in living rooms, hallways and large, open spaces.
The lounge chair is 26.1" wide, 24.1" deep and 27.8" high, with a seat height of 15". It comes in Oak, or with a Refine Leather seat in Cognac and Oak or Black and Black.
Counter and Bar Stools
Bentzen wanted the Cover Bar Stool to feel more like a chair at the bar than a stool, and it adapts the embracing back of the Cover Armchair. The stools are lightweight, with a tall, enveloping back for extensive comfort, be it a dinner, a drink or working at a counter desk.
The Cover Counter Stool is 19.7" wide, 21.6" deep and 37.8" high, with a seat height of 25.6". The Bar Stool is 19.7" wide, 22.8" deep and 41.7" high, with a seat height of 29.5". Both are made using FSC™-certified wood, and both come in Oak or Black, or with a Refine Leather seat in Cognac and Oak or Black and Black.
